The time had finally come for our free day in Berlin. It was a day where I could catch up on some sleep, relax, and wander the city of Berlin. I started the day off with a short thirty-minute walk to the House of Small Wonder, located in the Mitte district, to get some breakfast. Walking into the café, I ascended the looping staircase into a buzzing room filled with plants and open windows, making it feel as if I were sitting outside in a beautiful botanical garden. The café had an eclectic Asian vibe to it, with porcelain from the 1900s and tropical colors and wallpaper. I could tell that it was only young, hip Berliners who ventured off to this hole in the wall restaurant to enjoy the fresh and local ingredients. The menu had numerous Japanese influences, including comfort food with organic, local ingredients that were freshly prepared with Japanese flavors whenever possible. They had delicious homemade bread, and croissants and pastries that were are all freshly baked. I decided to order the homemade biscuit benedict, the croissant French toast, and the avocado and goat cheese chive sandwich for my friend and I to split. The meal came with fruit and salad and was plenty of food for Elena and me to devour. I stuffed my face with every last bit of the delightful biscuits and croissants, and proceeded to waddle down the winding staircase to continue my free day in Berlin.
