Marienplatz Mayhem

After spending the afternoon exploring the Deutsches Museum, we wanted to head to Mariaplatz to get dinner. All 18 of us flocked down into the subway and flooded the already crowded train. “Two stops! Two stops! We are getting off at Mariaplatz!” Shouted Mrs. Paige, trying to make sure we all know where to get off. However, when our time for departure came, the question wasn’t where to get off, it was how. A group of 7 students, myself included, tried to rush out the nearest door to leave our train, but the door would not open. We glanced up at a sign on the train door: “Malfunctioning door.” Oops. To our left, we saw the rest of the group leave through their door. We tried to follow, but the train doors slammed shut, squishing Andrew in the process (don’t worry, he’s fine). We all shared one final wide-eyed glance at Mrs. Paige before our train took us out of sight.

A friendly German fellow, who recognized our conundrum, explained to us that we needed to get off on the left side of the next stop and catch the train back. The next stop came around, and, naturally, we got off on the right side. We realized our mistake pretty quickly when we noticed a middle platform over the train tracks with another train visiting it. We crossed the train tracks the only way we knew how; we waited for the next train. When it came, we opened the door, and, using the train as a bridge, exited on the other side. Finally, we boarded the train back to Mariaplatz, hopped off correctly, and met up with the rest of our group.
